The original Damascus steel was used in the production of high-quality swords. Even back then, it was a highly select steel with characteristic patterns resembling marbling. Since it was true Damascus with hollow carbon microfibers coated with iron carbide fibers. Historically, it was already very expensive, and because of that, they began producing fake Damascus steel, this process later became established and the term Damasceningemerged. The original Damascening was never fully clarified; everything that is produced now is just a faithful copy that our blacksmiths have learned.
The main principle of this process is to combine materials with different properties, ideally at least two or three types of metals or steels. To find ones that are hard, brittle, flexible, and join them together. With repeated repetition, a billetis then formed. So we know what this billet actually is. It is layers of these materials, stacked on top of each other with the goal of creating a sufficiently hard whole.
The pattern that emerges is influenced by several factors:
- composition of the billet
- combination of materials
- the grinding itself, which can be perpendicular or parallel

The first is grinding and the second is chopping. However, you need to know how to do this, or leave it to a professional.
