Specification
The second generation of the hugely popular rechargeable head torch Fenix HM51R Ruby V2.0 offers light output of up to 700 lumens (ANSI) of neutral white light (4500 K) with a beam distance of up to 134 metres and is also equipped with red LEDs. It is powered by a single rechargeable RCR123A battery, which charges directly in the torch via a USB-C connector; alternatively, a single-use CR123A lithium battery can be used for power (with limited maximum output of 150 lumens). The control button features an indicator LED, so you will always know when to charge the battery. The torch head is magnetic, so it can be easily attached to any ferrous metal object. The HM51R has nine different lighting modes, which allow you to choose between high output and long runtime (up to 120 hours). The torch is powered by a digitally regulated constant current to ensure consistent light output even as battery voltage decreases (during gradual discharge).
All-metal construction ensures high durability, optimal cooling and is fully waterproof to IP68 standard to a depth of 2 metres underwater. The practicality of the head torch is enhanced by the ability to remove the light from the head mount and use it as a small pocket torch. In addition, the head torch is fitted with a removable steel clip, so you can easily attach it to a pocket or strap. The Fenix HM51R head torch is an ideal companion for various sports activities, outdoor trips and domestic use and work.
The Fenix HM51R head torch is a limited edition, which is based on the Fenix HM50R and offers numerous improvements. For example, a warmer light tone, magnetic head, constant regulation in most modes, more red light modes and more. If you are interested in all the differences between these two models, read the article Comparison of Fenix HM50R V2.0 and Fenix HM51R Ruby V2.0 head torches.
All torch parameters (light output, battery runtime, waterproofness, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

Use
From the factory there may be a black insulating cover inside the torch on the battery. Before first use remove it from the battery.
- The off head torch will turn on to the last used white light mode by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
- The off head torch will turn on to the last used red light mode by double-tapping the button quickly.
- The on head torch will turn off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
Switching power modes: If the head torch has white light on, you can cycle through power modes in the order 3 - 50 - 150 - 400 - 700 lumens by short button presses. If the head torch has red light on, you can cycle through lighting modes in the order red 1 lumen - red 5 lumens - red flashing - red SOS by short button presses. The torch has memory and will always turn on in the last set mode (applies to both white and red light).
Overheat protection: Operation on the highest mode is limited to 1 minute, after which the output gradually reduces to approximately 500 lumens over 5 minutes. If the internal torch temperature rises above 60 °C, it will automatically continue to reduce output in gradual steps until the temperature stabilises. Once the torch temperature drops below 60 °C, the output will gradually increase again. Operation on 400 lumens mode is limited to 5 minutes, after which the output gradually reduces to 200 lumens over 5 minutes.
Battery charge status indication: If the head torch is off, pressing the button once will display the battery charge status for 3 seconds, which is shown by coloured button backlighting: constant green: 100% - 80%, green flashing: 80% - 50%, constant red: 50% - 20%, red flashing: 20% and below (charge the head torch as soon as possible). The indication works correctly only with rechargeable RCR123A / 16340 batteries.
Charging: Turn off the head torch. Connect the USB cable to any USB power source. Unclip the charging connector seal cover and connect the USB-C connector of the charging cable to the head torch. During charging, the LED indicator in the button lights red; when fully charged, it lights green. A fully discharged Fenix ARB-L16-700P battery will charge in approximately 1.5 hours. After charging is complete, disconnect the cable and carefully seal the charging connector with the rubber cover to prevent dust and water ingress. For long-term storage, charge the head torch before use again. The used battery has no memory effect, so it can be recharged even if not fully discharged. During charging you can use the head torch in 3 and 50 lumens white light modes and in all red light modes.
Low battery warning: If the battery voltage drops below the set level, the head torch will automatically switch to lower power modes. If the head torch is already switched to the lowest power mode and the battery is critically discharged, the button indicator will start flashing red. However, the head torch will continue to light until the battery is completely discharged. The low battery warning is calibrated only for the voltage of rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
Head torch lock against activation: Loosen the battery cover of the head torch by a quarter turn, this will interrupt the electrical contact and the head torch cannot be turned on. The button can also be locked electronically - with the head torch off, hold the button down for 3 seconds. After locking, the torch will flash red. To unlock, hold the button down again for 3 seconds.
Warning
- Do not disassemble the sealed part in the torch head yourself, this will void the warranty.
- If using a single-use CR123A battery, do not attempt to charge it in the torch.
- If the protective rubber rings appear damaged after prolonged use, replace them. The rings should also be lubricated to prevent rubber erosion. By following these rules, the torch will be properly protected against water.
- If the torch is flashing, does not switch to higher power modes, or does not light up, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- Battery is almost discharged – charge it or replace it.
- Contacts inside the torch are dirty – clean them with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol.
- The rear of the torch is loose – tighten it.
