The second generation of the extremely powerful Fenix HP30R V2.0 head torch offers unrivalled performance of up to 3000 lumens (ANSI) and a beam distance of 270 metres. Excellent performance has been achieved by using a powerful XHP50 LED and a pair of XP-G3 S4 LEDs with a warmer light tone. The head torch is equipped with a long-range reflector and a pair of smaller reflectors with a wide light cone. Both reflectors are controlled separately, but can also be run simultaneously in combined mode. For power it uses two Li-ion rechargeable batteries of type 21700 5000 mAh, which are included in the package and can be recharged directly in the battery case via a USB-C connector.
The batteries are placed in a separate case on an adjustable cable, which can be worn on the back of the head, attached to the waist belt, placed in a pocket or rucksack. This increases wearing comfort and in winter the batteries are better protected against frost. The battery case is equipped with a battery capacity indicator and a USB output, so you can also use it as a portable power source (power bank) to charge your mobile phone or GPS navigation device.
The head torch offers a total of 11 power modes. In the lowest mode with 50 lumens it provides excellent runtime of up to 120 hours (that is 5 days). The head torch is powered by digitally regulated constant current to ensure constant light output even as battery voltage decreases (as they gradually discharge). The HP30R V2.0 is particularly suitable for ski running, ski mountaineering, night running, cycling, fishing, speleology, expeditions and other activities.
The head torch body is made from an aluminium alloy used in the aerospace industry. This ensures excellent cooling and resistance to damage.
All parameters of the head torch (light output, battery runtime, water resistance, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.
Specifications of the Fenix HP30R V2.0 head torch
- A powerful XHP50 LED and XP-G3 S4 LED with a warmer light tone are used, with a lifespan of 50,000 hours.
- Eleven lighting modes:
- Long-range reflector: 2000 lumens (6 hours) → 800 lumens (12 hours) → 200 lumens (34 hours) → 50 lumens (120 hours)
- Wide reflectors: 1000 lumens (10 hours) → 200 lumens (34 hours) → 50 lumens (120 hours)
- Combined mode: 3000 lumens (5 hours) → 1800 lumens (6 hours) → 400 lumens (17 hours) → 100 lumens (60 hours)
- The long-range and wide reflector can be switched on simultaneously, modes can be combined freely and achieve a total output of up to 3000 lumens.
- Runtime figures are measured with rechargeable Li-ion 21700 batteries with a capacity of 5000 mAh.
- Combined mode creates a light cone with a beam distance of 270 metres (17933 cd), the long-range reflector shines up to a distance of 251 metres (15733 cd) and the wide reflector shines up to a distance of 78 metres (1513 cd).
- Digitally regulated for constant brightness.
- Intelligent overheat protection.
- For power it uses two rechargeable 21700 batteries with a capacity of 5000 mAh (included in the package), if needed two 18650 batteries can also be used with ALF-18 adapters.
- The batteries are placed in a separate case, which can be attached to the back of the head, to the waist belt, in a pocket or in a rucksack.
- The batteries are recharged directly in the battery case via a USB-C connector.
- Power bank function – USB output for powering USB devices.
- The battery case is equipped with a battery status indicator.
- The head torch can be tilted in several steps to set the desired direction of light.
- The head torch body is made from an aluminium alloy used in the aerospace industry.
- Impact resistant from drops of 1 metre height. Weight 437 grammes (including straps, stainless steel waist belt attachment and batteries).
- Head torch dimensions: 9.2 cm x 5.6 cm x 4.4 cm
- Battery case dimensions: 10.7 cm x 5.0 cm x 4.1 cm
- Dust-proof and water-resistant according to IP66 standard (spraying with strong water jets from all directions).
- Hardened ultra-clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating.
- The package includes the head torch, two Fenix 21700 5000 mAh rechargeable batteries, a stainless steel carrier for attaching the battery case to the waist belt, 3 plastic clips for attaching the cable to the head strap, 4 holders for attaching the head strap to a helmet, an extension cable for the battery case, a USB-C charging cable and a spare O-ring.
- You can additionally purchase the Fenix APB-30 case, a USB mains adapter and a USB car adapter.
Use of the Fenix HP30R V2.0 head torch
From the factory there may be a white insulating cover inside the battery case on the batteries. Before first use, remove it from the batteries.
Operation – the head torch is controlled by a rotary switch. In its centre position the head torch is switched off.
- long-range reflector – to switch on the long-range reflector, turn the switch clockwise, the head torch switches on to the lowest power mode and by rotating increases the power up to the highest mode. Turning it back decreases the power.
- wide reflectors – when the switch is turned anticlockwise, two LEDs for a wide light cone switch on from the lowest to the highest mode, in the opposite direction the power decreases.
- to activate combined mode you must switch on one of the main modes (long-range or wide) and briefly press the button on the side of the switch. The power of the combined mode then decreases or increases in line with the originally selected circuit. Combined mode can be switched off partially by pressing the side button (switches off one of the circuits) or completely by turning to the centre position.
The length of the cable connecting the head torch to the battery case can be increased using the extension cable, which is included in the package. Connect and disconnect the connectors with a twisting motion, do not pull them apart with force. After replacing the batteries, tighten the fastening screw on the battery case thoroughly to ensure good water resistance.
Battery status indication – pressing the button on the battery case activates the battery capacity indicator (four lit diodes 80–100%, three diodes 60–80%, two diodes 40–60%, one diode 20–40%, one flashing diode indicates less than 20% battery capacity).
Charging – flip open the rubber cover of the USB-C connector on the side of the head torch and connect it to a computer, mains USB adapter or car USB adapter using the supplied USB-C cable. You can also use any mobile phone charger with a USB-C connector for charging. During charging the indicator diodes on the battery case flash, after full charging they light continuously. Charging fully discharged batteries takes approximately 4.5 hours.
To activate the USB output (power bank function) connect the device you want to charge and press the button on the battery case. Activation of the USB output is indicated by flashing diodes on the case.
Intelligent overheat protection – if the head torch temperature rises above 60 °C, it will automatically begin to reduce power until its temperature stabilises. As soon as the temperature drops below 60 °C, the power automatically increases again. Operation at the highest power modes is therefore not limited by time, but only by temperature.
Warning:
- Do not disassemble sealed parts yourself, this will void the warranty.
- Use only quality Li-ion rechargeable batteries to prevent damage to the head torch, for example due to leakage from the battery.
- If the head torch flashes, does not switch to higher power modes or does not light up, it could be one of the following reasons:
- The batteries are almost discharged – charge them or replace them.
- Make sure the connector on the cable between the head torch and the battery case is firmly connected.
- The contacts in the battery holder are dirty – clean them with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol.
Warranty: Five years warranty on the head torch and 2 years on the batteries.
