A three-person tent with a proper vestibule. Husky Baron 3 from the Extreme Lite range is a free-standing double-wall tent with an internal aluminium frame in which three people sleep comfortably and all the gear still fits — the vestibule has a floor of its own and the tent is 400 cm long. It is built for cycle touring, more demanding trekking and longer trips.

A spacious vestibule with a floor

A substantial part of the 400 cm total length is taken up by the vestibule with its own floor — rucksacks, panniers and wet boots all stay out of the bedroom and out of the mud. The 8.5 mm aluminium poles and lightweight aluminium pegs keep the tent stable even in bad weather, and the free-standing frame lets you pitch it on hard ground too.

Ripstop polyester with a 6,000 mm water column

The 210T ripstop polyester flysheet has a polyurethane coating with a 6,000 mm H₂O water column and taped seams; the ripstop grid stops any tear before it spreads. The breathable 190T nylon inner tent with mosquito mesh keeps air moving, and the 190T polyester groundsheet with a PU coating has a 10,000 mm H₂O water column. The fabric has enhanced UV protection.

Pros and cons of the Husky Baron 3

✓ Pros: a vestibule with a floor of its own that takes bulky gear, a large interior, a small packed size of 45 × 15 cm, taped seams, a free-standing frame, a storage pocket.

✗ Cons: a weight of 4.6 kg is on the high side for trekking, the 125 cm height does not let you stand up, the internal frame means the bedroom gets wet if you pitch in the rain, and it is not built for winter conditions.

How it compares with related models

Husky Baron 4 is the larger version for four, 0.5 kg heavier. Husky Beast 3 has the same capacity and is 1.1 kg lighter, but with a small vestibule. Husky Bright 4 has two vestibules and room for four at a weight of 3.7 kg.

Who is the Husky Baron 3 for?

For threes cycle touring and trekking who carry bulky gear and want it under cover, but not in the bedroom. If a small vestibule is enough and weight matters to you, choose the Beast 3.
