You can light one, two or all three wicks at the same time — depending on your need for light and warmth. One wick lasts the longest, three burn shorter but with significantly higher power.

The candle burns directly in the aluminium tin which serves as a safe holder. You can place it on a flat surface or hold it in your hand — the tin warms up but does not let the wax spill out.
